Here at Jamboree Heights S.S. our curriculum is delivered as integrated units of work that combine the essential learnings from the Key Learning Areas (KLAs) of
English Students interpret and construct English texts that share their experiences of the world and explore ideas and information, and to make sense of topics and issues beyond their immediate experience. They identify how people, characters, places, events and things are represented in particular or chosen ways. This includes a knowledge and understanding of speaking and listening, reading and viewing, and writing and designing, using both literary and factual texts. Mathematics Students use their understandings of mathematical concepts and processes to identify mathematics in a range of real-life situations. This includes a knowledge and understanding of number, algebra, measurement, chance and data, and space.. Science Students use their curiosity, senses and intuition as a basis for exploring, investigating and testing their scienctific thinking about the world. They understand that science is a way of constructing new knowledge and that it is based on observation of, and inferences from, the natural world. This includes a knowledge and understanding of science as a human endeavour,earth and beyond, energy and change, life and living, and natural and processed materials. Studies of Society and Environment (SOSE) Students use their experiences of people, places, systems and environments to make connections to their own experiences. They develop awareness of relationships between people, and between people and places. They identify social and environmenttal values in local and national contexts, and develop their capacity to participate and work effectively in their communities. This includes a knowledge and understanding of time, continuity and change; place and space; culture and identity; and political and economic systems. The Arts Students use their creativity, imagination and senses to express thier observations, values and beliefs in personal and community contexts through Drama, Music, Media and Visual Arts. They develop their aesthetic understandings of arts elements and languages. They creat their own art works and present and respond to their own and others' art works, considering different audiences and different purposes. Technology Students explore the designed world and recognise that they can be both users and creators of technology. they identify and understand the characteristics of a range of resources( information, materials and /or systems) and assess their suitability for a specific purpose and context. Students develop their ability to work technologically by generating, assessing and comminicating design ideas and by selecting, manipulating and processing resources, to individually and collaboratively design and make products. Students select and use tools and technologies, including information and communication technologies (ICTs), in purposeful ways. They use ICTs as an integral component of their learning, to inquire, create and communicate within technology contexts.
Health and Physical Education (HPE) Students use their enthusiasm for physical activity and curiosity about health and personal development to explore how the dimensions of health are influenced by personal, social, cultural and environmental factors. They individually and collaboratively make dicisions, take action and apply skills to promote health and wellbeing, movement capacities and personal development of individuals and groups. |
