JAMBOREE HEIGHTS STATE SCHOOL UNIFORM CODE
Jamboree Heights State School uniform was developed by the P&C and staff who value and support the wearing of correct uniform.
Wearing uniform increases students pride in their school, is economical and reduces equity issues and competition to wear fashion items.
The School Uniform:
Girls: • Formal dress in red & white check school material (Year 1-3 only) • Red & white check school material blouse • Red and navy polo shirt with school logo • Navy netball skirt or navy culottes or navy unisex shorts • White or Navy socks • Black shoes or dark coloured joggers • School sweatshirt or zip front jacket with school logo • Navy trackpants • Navy wide brimmed hat
Boys: • Shirt in red & white check school material • Red and navy polo shirt with school logo • Navy shorts • White or Navy socks • Black school shoes (joggers) • School sweatshirt or zip front jacket with school logo • Navy trackpants • Navy wide brimmed hat
House: House coloured sun safe polo shirt • Royal blue – Logan • Yellow – Oxley • Mid green - Bowen
Hats Our school has a clear, P & C approved policy of “No Hat, No Play”. In this way we encourage the use of hats and reassure you that constant reference to the dangers of over exposure to the sun will be made, especially during summer months. All children are expected to wear a hat, not a cap, and the brim must have a minimum width of 6 cm. The school hat available at the Uniform Shop is the preferred choice and is very reasonably priced. Please mark hats (and other clothing) with your child's name. In our climate it is also advisable to apply sunscreen each day before school.
Footwear Students are encouraged to wear suitable footwear. Laced up shoes are preferred. Thongs are not permitted except under extenuating circumstances.
Presentation One formal checked shirt and/or dress is required for formal occasions, photos, excursions and representation in competitions.
Variations to school uniform eg. jeans, boardshorts, very brief shorts, non-uniform jackets and hats are not considered appropriate. Uniforms worn to sport must include normal school skirt or shorts.
Hair is to be neat and long hair needs to be pulled back for safety. Extreme hairstyles or colourings are not permitted. Hair accessories should match school colours.
Jewellery must not create a safety concern and is restricted to: • a maximum of two pairs of sleeper/studs. Other piercings must be covered or clear retainers worn. • a watch • medical bracelet/pendants are accepted.
Make up and nail polish are not to be worn.
Free Dress Days Our school has a number of free dress days during the year when children wearing free dress are encouraged to donate a gold coin, which is then donated to a nominated worthwhile cause. The following clothing is not appropriate for these days: • Clothing printed with inappropriate or offensive imagery or wording. • Clothing that is not sun-safe, eg. singlet tops, midriff tops. • Thongs, reef sandals. • High heeled shoes. • Jewellery that does not conform to the usual standards.
Non Compliance with Dress Code Students are required to wear correct uniform at all times. If correct uniform cannot be worn, parents are requested to send a written note or discuss concerns with the Principal or Deputy Principal.
Exemptions can be made for a set period of time.
Consistent breaches of the uniform code will be recorded on class behaviour records and parents will be contacted.
Students not complying with the uniform code will be given the opportunity to remove items and borrow an item from a reserve of uniform stock kept in the office.
Sanctions may include lunch time detention if students persistently wear inappropriate dress after discussions have been held with parents/carers.
The P&C support the above sanctions and are willing to provide a pool of uniform items to be distributed on loan when needed. Parents are encouraged to speak to the Principal/Deputy Principal in any situations where extra consideration or exemptions are requested.
